SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to connect to a server and conduct various tasks using a command line. The protocol is popular with many knowledgeable users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access may be used for a variety of things with regards to the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the server permits it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually anything - you may install software or restart particular services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used primarily with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients that enable you to use the protocol if your PC is working with a different OS as well. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although many providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
SSH access is provided with all cloud hosting plans that we provide. With some of them, it is offered by default, while with others it's an additional upgrade that you can include with a couple of mouse clicks from your hosting CP. You can get SSH access from the section related to it in which you can also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You could select the password which you'll use and, if needed, you'll be able to modify it with a few mouse clicks from the same location. All the commands which can be used with our shared packages are listed inside a help article alongside relevant instances. If the SSH access function is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to receive SSH access to it with a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your package doesn't support this function by default, you will be able to include it easily through the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you'll find the info which you need to connect to the server via a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter may be updated at any time, if required. These login credentials are also needed if you want to upload files through a secure connection and you want to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we provide. A complete list of the commands you can perform will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you could perform within your account and each one is accompanied by a few instances of the syntax.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
When you order a new VPS server from our company, it will come with full root access and you'll be able to connect to the server and to control everything through an SSH console. The feature is included by default with all plans, so you shall not need to activate or upgrade anything. Your hosting server shall be set up right after you order it and the instant you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login information, you can connect using the server’s main IP address and begin working. Because the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts within the physical machine, there'll be no restrictions with regards to the commands you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you could install and run any application which can work on a Linux web server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot the entire machine or any software operating on it.
