Each and every personal computer or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software that communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, together with any applications that are installed on your system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a server, any application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This is valid for both standard Internet site scripts and server-side software like a media server. When a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, which means that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We provide three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the most stable and reliable OSs out there and we provide all three instead of just one because we realize that you may want to set up some software with specific requirements regarding the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there're various software applications you can install on the web hosting server. Your OS choice will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you wish to use one and for this reason we offer multiple Control Panels too. If you ever decide that you need to have a different OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you want. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server plans that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to select from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license taxes, but they’re also regarded as the most dependable and secure OSs. We provide three different ones for the reason that each of them is backed by a separate community. The packages that you can add on your server are different and this could matter if you want to install some piece of software with specific requirements for the hosting environment. In this light, the web hosting Control Panel which you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the OS that you will select. You may choose any of the three Operating Systems during the order procedure, but if necessary, we can always set up the server once again with a different one upon your request. As an optional service that you may add to the package whenever you want, we can update the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible.
